About Us

The Vienna English Speaking Catholic Community, VESCC for short, is an international group of people from all walks of life, joined together by the common bond of Catholic Christian belief, and the English language.

At present, our community represents more than 30 nations from all over the world. Thus, the community resembles more a personal parish as opposed to a geographical one. In a certain sense, all English-speaking Catholics residing in the Archdiocese of Vienna belong to our community.

For over twenty years, the community gathered for Sunday church services and special holiday celebrations at the historic Votive Church in Vienna’s 9th district. Beginning February 2009, the community Sunday masses moved to the St. Francis of Assisi Church along the Danube River, in Mexikoplatz 12, 1020 Vienna.

Our Community’s Pastoral Team and Executive Board include:

  • Fr. Kevin Soars (Pastor and President)
  • Marcelino Linares (Acting Vice President)
  • Efren Abaya

Other members of the VESCC Community Council are:

  • Gehani Dewasurendra
  • Annabelle Fernandez
  • Dejan Jovicevic
  • Patrick Kormawa
  • Selestine Oduku
  • Philomena Ugbor
  • Gordon van der Veen

We invite those new to Vienna to join us for our weekly Sunday Eucharist, to register as a member of our community and take an active part in our programmes and activities.

  1. We were in from the states on holiday a couple Sunday’s ago and wanted to say thanks to Gordon for inviting us to the potluck after mass. Especially Jane for giving us such good information on sightseeing and then Fatima for walking us to the U-Bahn. We hope Father Kevin’s stay in the hospital was short and successful. If anyone is coming to Chicago and needs information please feel free to e-mail us.

    Thanks again and God Bless.
